First of all let me answer one question first; "what is happiness?"

Although the answer differs from person to person, Happiness is simply something everyone wants to have. It is a state of well-being and contentment or a pleasurable / satisfying experience. 

Aside from this dictionary definition, here is what some famous people have to tell us about happiness.

  • 1.       Be kinder towards yourself. You plan to spread happiness to the world? Start with yourself. You can’t give what you don’t have.
  • 2.      Recall how people’s kindness made you feel. Most people remember a bad experience more than a good. No one is so unlucky never to have received an act of kindness. Go ahead and show others that you remember by being kind.
  • 3.     Express your gratitude. No one owes you a favor therefore try to appreciate people.
  • 4.     Replace the judgments. No one likes to be judged. The worst part is that no ‘judge’ is really happy. The more judgmental you are to people the unhappier you will be.
  • 5.      Greet with a Smile. Even job experts talk about this trait. Add a gentle smile to that ‘good morning’. Don’t look too serious every time. A friend recently asked me if everything was ok just because I put on a strong face. I quickly smiled.
  • 6.     Share an inspirational quote or picture. Once in a while share something inspirational to friends, especially those you barely chat with.
  • 7.      Give somebody a surprise. Everyone loves good surprise.
  • 8.     Pass on your knowledge and your skills. You can help classmates or colleagues. Find a way to share what you know with others. Help them out.
  • 9.     Say hi to your neighbors. Have you ever been greeted by someone who never talks to you before? How did it make you feel? Do the same for other people you never talked to before.
  • 10.  Happiness is contagious. So be contagious. Become a bank of happiness. Someone whom people can run to find happiness.
  • 11.    Hide a surprising and kind note for those you care for.
  • 12.   Replace nonconstructive criticism.
  • 13.  Put yourself in the other person’s shoes. How would I think and feel it, if I were in his or her shoes? What parts of this person can I see in myself?
  • 14.  Help someone out practically.
  • 15. Help people see how   they make a difference in your life.
